सुखना झील पर जब भी आऐ मीठी यादें साथ ले जाऐ

By Kiran Deep

Endless Soul Journey

 By Kiran Deep

While on Tuesday India launched its first spacecraft bound for Mars and will be able to explore new things.  I am thinking about my soul journey which so far appears to be endless…Yes there is certainly no beginning and no end. But there has to has something called definite ….or we all have to follow this endless route? Or we all just have to continue journey…Even if we like or unlike the station….yes definitely station is not permanent same as everything….but when matter become irrelevant and soul is evident, Soul has to be following some route and companion has to be soul mate…..or you have to continue your journey with souls of different domain. Or  it’s just that you have to feel only journey without even bothering about anything….

An appeal to UP CM to reinstate IAS officer Durga Shakti Nagapl

                                                   By Kiran Deep
Illegal and Unscientific mining is crime against humanity
An open appeal to UP Chief Minister, Akhilesh Yadav, to reinstate an IAS officer  Durga Shakti Nagpal, while withdrawing her suspension order.
Sir…
I wish there will be more IAS officers like Durga who has guts to take action against mining mafia to save the environment. It’s important to save the environment of  UP …. The reason the illegal and unscientific mining of the sand and stone is crime against humanity. The recent floods has caused devastation in Uttarakhand and also floods in Yamuna that had caused much damage in the areas along Yamuna in UP and Haryana. These  disasters termed as Man Made disaster as illegal and unscientific mining of sand and stone had been rampant in the rivers, seasonal rivulets, there was huge unregulated and illegal construction in the rivers and along it. There was also cutting of the mountains and felling of trees in a large numbers. As there was no check and no monitoring of the environment damage. As a result thousands of people in Uttarakhand lost their lives following damage to environment. Similarly in villagers living along Yamun in Uttar Pardesh and also in Haryana also suffered much loss following much damage to Yamuna triggered by the illegal and unscientific mining.
Although UP government said that the step was  taken because there was a possibility of communal tension brewing up in the area. However it’s  open secret in the area that she has been fighting against the mining mafia.

Sir,  Akhilesh Yadav……. An IAS officer,  Durga Shakti Nagpal, deserves to be honoured who dared to take strong action against mining Mafia. Durga Shakti Nagpal had been working against the illegal mining and also registered over two dozen FIRs registered against those involved in illegal mining of sand. She was raising strong voice against mining mafia and also working hard to stop the illegal mining which is urgently required to save the environment.

An appeal to start Guru ka Langar ( Community kitchen) in Uttarakhand flood affected areas

Urgent need of community kitchens and tents in flood affected areas

The immediate relief that the victims of the flood affected areas both of other states and of locals  requires is food and water and safe place to stay. The best method that the religious organisations, NGOs and Cooperate houses and also all those who have enough resources of income to help can start community kitchen in Uttarakhand. The guru ka langar  the community kitchen will help thousands of people  who have been stranded in different places. It is very painful to see people crying and in much terrible situation in the absence of proper meal and water and in the absence of proper place to stay. Community kitchen can do great help to people who have suffered from floods. In addition to it, supply of tents and also errection of make shift houses will  provide immediate relief for the victims of the floods both locals and also for pilgirms.

An Open letter to PM and Haryana, Delhi, UP CMs

                Yamuna Flood--Wake up call
                            By Kiran Deep

Overflow of Yamuna has been causing much damage in the low lying areas of Haryana, UP and Delhi for years, however neither the central government nor the affected states have any solution to control the overflow of Yamuna. To much apathy, all are   helpless. The reason is that there is no dam in the upstream of Yamuna in Himachal Pradesh or Uttarakhand that can store and control the heavy flow of the river. The Hathnikund barrage which is situated in Yamunanagar district on the border of Himachal and Uttarakhand can only channelise river water. The Haryana government has been claiming for years that it had discussed the issue with Delhi and UP governments and things will be finalise soon in this regard. However these remain mare statements only and nothing concrete came out so far.

The situation is serious and it requires attention of the Prime Minister, Haryana, Delhi, UP CMs. There is urgent need to find some solution to control Yamuna water to avoid floods in the low-lying areas situated along Yamuna in Haryana, UP and Delhi.

The situation is deteriorated in the low lying areas of Haryana after 8.06 lakh cusecs water was discharged from the Hathnikund barrage on Monday which has caused much damage in around 150 villages of Haryana and also of Saharanpur of UP so far and will also hit low lying areas of Delhi late night today and tomorrow. Many villagers have become homeless and did have food to eat, have no availability to water, electricity in Haryana. All credit goes to the concerned states and central government’s inability to understand the pain and suffering of the villagers living all along Yamuna in Haryana, UP and Delhi.

This is not first time, that the floods had caused much damages, almost every alternate year, the people of living in the low lying areas have to face similar. Earlier the water level of Yamuna was recorded 7.44 lakh cusecs in 2010, and it had caused damages in over 100 villages in Haryana and many persons had lost their lives. Besides Haryana, low lying area of the UP and Delhi, had also suffered losses. Similarly in 1978, the water level of Yamuna was recorded 7 lakh cusecs which had caused much damage in Haryana, UP and also in Delhi. Whenever the catchments areas of the river had witnessed heavy rainfall in the previous years, it led to the overflow of the Yamuna and damages, especially in 1988, 1995, 1998. In addition to it, the water level of the Yamuna at the Hathnikund barrage had reached 4.25 lakh cusecs (over flood point) in 2008 and also in 2009 due to heavy rainfall.

Why there is need to construct Dam
There is need to construct Dam on the upstream of Yamuna as the water level of the Yamuna depends on the inflow of seasonal rivulets and tributaries of Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand, which converges in the Yamuna at the Hathnikund barrage. The water received at the Hathnikund barrage is released into two canals, Western Yamuna Canal (WYC) for Delhi and Eastern Yamuna Canal (EYC) from the barrage for UP, and also in downstream of the Yamuna for Haryana as per the shares. The Hathnikund barrage has 18 floodgates to channelise the water in downstream. The mini flood is declared after the water level of the Yamuna crosses 70,000 cusecs at the Hathnikund barrage, while flood is declared when the water level crosses 3-lakh cusecs mark. If the water level of the Yamuna crosses 70,000 cusecs mark, then officials of the barrage even stop the release of water into the WYC and the EYC as the heavy flow of the Yamuna carries sand and stone that can choke the canal system. Then, all water received at the barrage is released into the downstream of the barrage in the Yamuna. Then, the overflow of water, through Yamunanagar, Karnal, Panipat and Sonepat, after three days reaches Delhi. The Hathnikund barrage can only channelise river water. So to control the flow of Yamuna, there is need of Dam.

Flood in Yamuna --Man made disaster or natural disaster?

By Kiran Deep

Yamuna today recorded highest ever water flow in it that is 8.06 lakh cusecs registered  at Hathni Kund barrage situated in Yamunanagar of Haryana at 6 am. The water released in Yamuna from Hathni Kund barrage after passing through the districts include Yamunananagar, Panipat, Karnal, Sonepat, will reach Delhi after 72 hours. As a result Yamuna will continue to play havoc in the next two days in state and also in Delhi. The situation will further deteriorate if the rainfall continue in the catchment area of Yamuna and also in Haryana and in Delhi. The reason for the rise in the water level of Yamuna is heavy rainfall in its catchment areas in Himachal Pardesh and Uttarakhand. The overflow of Yamuna has caused damages over 50 villages maximum in Yamunanagar district and also in Panipat and Karnal districts of Haryana so for. However rather than blaming the nature, it’s the state government who is responsible for much damages. As Yamuna passing through Haryana has been exploited by the mining mafia unabated for the past many years.  In the absence of any strong political will, the unscientific mining of the sand  and stone has virtually broken the backbone of Yamuna. To much apathy, the villagers had raised the issue of unscientific mining of sand and stone; however lack of political will nothing concrete has happened so far.

The use of JCB machines to dig out sand and stone illegally and unscientific manners has   destroyed the water holding capacity of the river as a result whenever there is heavy flow of water in Yamuna, it will cause breaches. Unfortunately mining of sand and stone has been continue along the Yamuna and other seasonal rivulets Som and Pathrala of Yamunanagar and other districts of Haryana along Yamuna for years. The unscientific mining at a depth of 10 to 60 feet in the river and also on land in villages situated on the banks of Yamuna had remained checked.

Surprisingly in the absence of proper check by the Haryana and Uttar Pardesh government, a large number of stone crushers are still functioning both sides of Yamuna. Even one can easily evaluate the extend of the damages continue to be caused to Yamuna from the number of vehicles carrying sand and stone can easily be seen all along Yamuna. Even the mining of sand and stone continue in the prohibited area along Kalesar park of Yamunanagar.
Earlier in 1978 when the Yamuna water was recorded highest 7 lakh cusecs had caused many damages in Haryana, Uttar Pardesh and Delhi. Similarly in 2010, the water level of Yamuna was recorded 7.44 lakh cusecs and had caused much damages in 100 villages of Haryana and also of UP and low lying areas of Delhi.

Need of development, reformative approach and constructive dialogue to end Maoist problem in India

                            By Kiran Deep
Development, reformative approach, constructive dialogue are the things which the state and central government should do to end the Maoists problem in India. The government should involve NGOs, people from religious organisation, experienced IAS officers, police, doctors, actors, army officials, journalists to solve the problem. It requires collective efforts to tackle the problem. The government should use police and army only to built confidence among the people and provide safety to them, not to kill them.  The killing of  innocent people in Chhattisgarh by Maoists is an unfortunate incident and should not have happen.

However I feel the state and central government before planning any policy and action against Adivasis must need to understand that who are the Maoists or Naxalites? Why they are fighting? Does they have genuine cause or anger against the system? Does they are the most neglected or ill treated people? Does the leaders of these Maoists are functioning independent or playing in the hand of external forces? Does the advises of Chhattisgarh have any idea about what Naxalism is all about or they are just fighting to get basic amenities? The state and centre government  use the police and army to ensure that the deprived people feel  a part of the democratic system not to terrorise  them, is it so that only leaders of these rebel are aware of philosophy or ideology while all other innocents are just fighting for their rights to protect them.
I have some experience to understand little about them while doing reporting which I am sharing. While I was working with The Tribune in 2009 I did a series on suspected Maoists in Haryana who were arrested by the police. I have attached five stories below and also I did half an hour documentary with Day and Night News Channel in 2011 and two links of the documentary also attached below.

I can not stop myself sharing my feeling as there is a lot  of talk and different solutions suggested by the experts, politicians and also by media. Even many go aggressively suggesting recommending immediate army action to root out the Maoists in India or to solve Maoists problem. But first and most vital question surface is who are the Maoists?  They are Indians.  And then with whom and why they are fighting…They are fighting for their rights as they have been deprived of even basic amenities…and many of them much exploited. Adivasi's are poor.....and they are not aware of but the naxalism or Maoism all about....So the protection of the people and to get them into main stream is the duty of the state and central government and also of all those who can help to solve the problem.

The government has to make environment so better that the the aggrieved people can participate in the democratic system. It is the duty of the state and central government to create job opportunity for them so that they can earn meal three times a day at least respectfully and live respectfully. And also  provide them basic amenities such as drinking water facility, provide them education so that they can associate with other people. I feel its the responsibility of the governments to realise the people that they are also a part of democratic system where they have equal rights and also equal responsibilities. The government also has to ensure that the poor advasis should not be displaced unnecessary, they should not suppressed by powerful people, they should not have to face rapes and murders.

The country is supreme ......the democracy is supreme. I have full faith that the aggrieved people will join the mainstream and it is the duty of all of us the citizen of India to help them come out of their sphere. We all should have to work united to end the problem of Maoism or Naxlism.

SOUL

By Kiran Deep

When you seems to be no where
When inner voice is evident everywhere
When you are no more
When you are  pure soul
When you are receiving soul touch everywhere
When you are living true soul life
When you are performing your real duty
When the presence of soul is felt every where
When everything seem to be crystal clear
When everything seem to be your true friend
When even a leaf is great guiding force for you
When presence of life is evident in everything
When even river stones are important part of your life
When river stones discuss everything  with you
When birds are just your family members
When even street dogs are very significant for you
When the touch of river water appear to be ultimate truth of your life
When you have no desire
But have feel of love everywhere

Wake up call for Haryana government

Terror of rapes in Haryana
Again shame… this time by a teacher, girls not to attend schools
By Kiran Deep

The decision of two villages of Jind in Haryana not to send the girls to schools in the wake of alleged rape of a girl by teacher is a major call for the state and central government to do something seriously to prevent the cases of rape. The villagers took this extreme step after finding not enough measures taken by the police, administration and the state government to protect their girls. Yesterday two villages of Jind district decided not to send their girls to school after a class IX student of government school was allegedly raped by a teacher. This is not the first incident, earlier six villages of Mahendergarh has also taken similar decision after rise in cases of sexual harassment. The condition of the girls seem to be much worse in Haryana in view of  a number of rapes and gang rapes took place in Haryana last year, this year also the cases of rapes and gang rapes are alarming. Haryana is a state where much more efforts required by the government to make the girls much secure and empowered as sex ratio is low.

People are hopeful that after much protest by the people against the rapes across the nation, the things would improve. However nothing substantial came out. It is unfortunate that these incident  happened in Haryana after so much protest, discussions and much talk about reforms in the country after two rape cases that took place in the National Capital Delhi include gang rape of a 23 year old girl  in December in last year and this year rape of a minor girl. After the gang rape of 23 year old girl, the Justice Verma committee was  formed, it came out with findings, recommendations and then Parliament has passed the anti rape bill. There is also much talk about the reforms in police. However these two incidents in Haryana show that the state and central government has to pay much attention to build confidence among the people so that villagers feel secure to send their girls to school.

Salute to Kargil Martyrs

By Kiran Deep

“When you will receive this letter I will be in heaven watching all of you. Expressing love to his family and asking his parents to feel sorry to his fiancé” these are some of the things which I can recall from a letter which has been placed in a memorial in Leh. This letter was written by young army officer of age around 24  to his parent's  before he sacrificed his life for country during Kargil war. I been to Leh nearly a year ago. I am again paying tribute to all Kargil martyrs. The martyrs who made extreme sacrifice for the country by defeating the intruders of Pakistan and won the battle in 1999. I wish I could have a copy of the letter so that I can display  for everyone. What made me to pay tribute to martyrs again even before the Kargil Vijay Diwas, is Pakistan’s Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif statement that he will not allow Kargil, 26/11, terror from Pak soil.
We love peace and harmony. What does it so easy for Nawaz Sharif? As he has to do a lot of homework and set his house in order. We all hope that he will fulfill his commitment to end terror. However task seems not an easy one….It is in fact an uphill task…First he has to tackle the army, Talibans and his external secret security agencies. He did not say anything about Dawood Ibrahim…However to improve relation with India, I feel Pakistan has to end terror training centers and also those promoting hatred against humanity. And Pakistan has to get rid of the India’s most wanted terrorist Dawood Ibrahim who is residing in Pakistan and other terrorist’s organisations.

Kargil Vijay Diwas is celebrated on 26 July every year in honour of the Kargil War's Heroes. Kargil war reminds me that we should never forget that even when the atmosphere seems to be conducive, the borders need to be protected at most care. First Pakistan intruders and recently Chinese soldiers entry into our territory remind us that borders need to be protected strongly. Things cannot change in a day…but positive intention is always important, we hope that Nawaz Sharif fulfill his promises as he made statements while an interviews to the media.

While coming out of the memorial in Leh, as after reading army officer letter I cannot control my feelings and I wrote in the visitors book that a copy of this letter should be display in all the schools, colleges and Universities so that everyone must aware of the supreme sacrifice and exemplary courage of the soldiers during Kargil war. It’s now almost a year of my trip to Kargil and Leh, but these places specially army hardwork and supreme sacrifice  has left forever impression on my mind and soul.

Save Earth....Record rise in carbon dioxide is warning for all of us

By Kiran Deep
On May 10, it was reported in The New York Times that the level of the most important heat-trapping gas in the atmosphere, carbon dioxide, has passed a long-feared milestone, scientists reported Friday, reaching a concentration not seen on the earth for millions of years. A report by Justin Gillis in the The New York Times further say that the  best available evidence suggests the amount of the gas in the air has not been this high for at least three million years, before humans evolved, and scientists believe the rise portends large changes in the climate and the level of the sea.

I feel record rise in gas clear indication that anything can happen if we do not care about the nature. I also feel  nothing is for granted in this world. This is high time ...Now we have to take care of every natural resource to save earth. We can not take anything for granted. The natural resources are dying. The development is important but with care. The cutting of trees is continue in an uncontrolled manner all around the world, the wastage of water and the uncontrolled release of pollutants into the rivers has become the biggest cause of concern. The industries are growing rapidly but how many bothered about pollution. The increase number of  vehicles all around the world has been contributing in the rise in the temperature and air pollution. The Ozone layer is depleting because of the all kind of pollution caused by the industries and others.

As for my little experience of visit to different places to feel rivers, wetlands, lakes, mountains, is concerned it has led me to realise that there is much need to be done. The glaciers are melting. The unscientific mining of sand and stone has caused much damage to many rivers and seasonal rivulets in India include Yamuna and Ganga. In addition to it, mining of other minerals has also destroyed forests and mountains. There has to be strict rules and regulation to save environment.

We all have to woke up…and take the record rise in carbon dioxide as warning sign for all of us. We have to save forest, tress, save water, save rivers, save lakes, save ponds, wetlands. We have to save the single drop of water…even a leaf..Now we are facing situation where the many species of animals and plants have become extinct. The population of the birds and wild animals has been declining significantly. Now all the countries have to think seriously to say no to nuclear and chemical weapons. The development is a part of life and we have to continue development work…but we have to decide at what cost. The construction of power plants or any development project has to be done with at out most care. Human existence is possible if we have environment or more appropriately Earth......we all have to say no to things which are destroying earth.......

Supreme Court well done.. CBI caged parrot..

When tainted ministers will resign?
By Kiran Deep

Time when the country is dominated by scam after scam..2G scam.. Coal scam, chit fund scam and job on sale of railway ministry, the Supreme Court today’s order came as  little hope to maintain the people’s faith in the system. The Supreme Court is doing the most desired work by pulling the CBI and also central government in coal scam. The Apex Court today criticised the CBI for becoming "a caged parrot speaking in master’s voice”. The Supreme Court also pulled up the Joint Secretaries of Prime Minister Office (PMO) and Coal Ministry for meeting the CBI officials and suggesting changes in the draft report. But the fact is that the CBI and administrative officials are doing what the leaders are directing them. The things would expect to improve only with more independence to the CBI and more checks on the leaders in terms of their assets and inculcating moral values among politicians.

The country is witnessing scam after scam.. there is no end….Public is angry, disappointed from the multidimensional failure of the system, poor people are committing suicides …..Time when even after so much evidence and faults both on behalf of the Law Minister Ashwani Kumar who alleged to had made changes in the CBI’S draft status in coal scam and Railway Minister Pawan Kumar Bansal in job’s scam have refused to resign…. Leaders of such status of the Cabinet Ministers should have resigned on  moral grounds. Institution of Democracy is supreme. Even if we supposed that both the Law Minister and Railway Minister have not done anything wrong….In view of the evidence surfaced so far..Both the Law Minister and Railway Minister should have resigned to maintain the faith of people in democracy…In both the cases it appears that leaders have privilege to do anything and they are supreme. In both the cases it requires the strong action from the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Congress President Sonia Gandhi to maintain the people faith. Now it has become general impression among the people that UPA is not at all serious to tackle the corruption and corrupt. So Supreme court work is commendable.

Nuclear power plant and safety of people, environment

SC green signal for Koodankulam nuclear plant
Nuclear power plants are important,
But safety of people, environment also important

By Kiran Deep
The Supreme Court today’s order that the nuclear power plants are needed in the country for the present and future generations is justified. However there is much need that nuclear power plants should be set up at safer places and safety of the people and environment protection has to be taken care of on the priority basis. The Supreme Court on Monday dismissed the plea against commissioning of the Koodankulam nuclear plant. Stating that Koodankulam plant is safe, secure the Apex court said that nuclear power plant is necessary for larger public interest and economic growth of the country. A bench of justices K S Radhakrishnan and Dipak Misra, also gave 15 guidelines on commissioning, safety and security and environmental issues concerning the plant.

Last year I spoke to the Chairman of the Atomic Energy Commission Dr Sri Kumar Banerjee, during his visit to inaugurate the function at TBRL Ramgarh in Panchkula district of Haryana.  Dr Banerjee had expressed the need to set up nuclear power plant in the country, said that it is important to set up nuclear power plants in India in view of the rise in the power demand. He also added that the nuclear power plants are safe in India and country has latest technology in new power plants. Dr Banerjee also said that the committee of the experts is there to meet the villagers to seek their views and also study other expects include environment and feasibility of setting of nuclear power plants.

Later I have also visited the three villages of Fatehabad where the government has acquired land to set up 2800 MW nuclear power plant. The environment assessment report of the site of the nuclear power plant is not cleared yet.  The situation is different in three villages whose land acquired for the setting up of nuclear power plant. The government had claimed that it has taken all the precaution before deciding to set up the project. However there are many things which did not followed before setting up of nuclear power project. First neither the state government nor the centre government took the people into confidence before acquiring their land. Other questions surfaced here is that can  nuclear power project can be set up close of the populated areas same as Fatehabad, can environment clearance is not necessary before setting up of any nuclear plant. Can wild life include black bucks are not important at all for government. Does proper rehabilitation of villagers and wild life is not important. Although government has managed to convince the majority of the villagers of the Gorakhpur and two others by paying them good compensation for their land and now the government is all set to built the nuclear power plant.
Moreover does the Nuclear power plant will have required water supply from Bhakra Dam?

India is ranked sixth in terms of production of nuclear energy, behind the U.S, France, Japan, Russia, and South Korea. India has set a target to increase installed nuclear power generation capacity 20,000 MW by 2020. In addition to it, the country is expected to increase nuclear power contribution to overall electricity generation capacity from 3.2 percent to 9 within 25 years. There are now 437 operating nuclear reactors around the world in over 30 countries and generating around 16 percent of the world's electricity. The International Atomic Energy Agency's target is to set up 90 new nuclear plants by 2030 while ten new nuclear plants went online over the past two years.

The Fukushima nuclear power plant accident has slow down the process of setting up of nuclear power plants around the world. As after the Fukushima incident, the intensity of the protest against the setting of nuclear power plants has been intensified and it has also raised issue of the safety of the people living around the plants and environment protection. Now after the Supreme Court decision, now central and the state government has to ensure that safety of people and environment could not be compromised.
